Wola Nani Crafts
Location: Cape Town, South Africa Background: With nearly 6 million people infected with HIV, South Africa has more HIV+ individuals than any other country. Wola Nani Crafts emerged in response to the need for unemployed, HIV-positive women to generate an income. Wola Nani is Xhosa for ‘we embrace and develop one another’. Inspiration: Making the crafts gives a sense of achievement along with providing therapeutic value and a desperately needed source of income. Best compliment: “The products are consistently good. I like to stock them because I know that the person who produces the bowls gets the money.” |
