Inspired by the bags typically used in French markets, this Big Market Bag is cleverly made by sewing together discarded cartons previously used for tomato sauce. Very sturdy and spacious, this is the largest bag we stock and is perfect for grocery shopping.

Location: Philippines

Background: The co-op began as an environmental cleaning project which expanded into developing 'livelihood opportunities from garbage'. It now employs 200 women.

Inspiration: ‘Doypack’ pouches of popular drinks were traditionally burnt, buried or left as litter. The co-op discovered that these colourful, tough and non-biodegradable packs were well suited to 'creative recycling' and began to collect, clean and sew packs together to create bags.

Best compliment: The co-op has won awards for environmental concern, contribution to recycling and employment generation.
